St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner, and to celebrate, the Houston community will throw its 61st Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, March 14th.
With a new route along the Historic Market Square, the celebration will reach all-new heights this year. The new venue is the original heart of community activity in downtown Houston and is once again the place to be. With plenty of space for live entertainment, tasty temptations, and more, Market Square Park is the perfect venue for any event, which helped the parade committee nail down a final decision in making the switch!
The parade begins at 12 PM, but the fun doesn’t stop once the final float has passed. Afterward, families and friends can continue the celebration with St. Paddy’s-themed food, games, and a free concert by Blaggards. Blaggards formed during the Summer of 2004 in Houston, Texas. The local band is known for its Stout Irish Rock, which is traditional Irish music combined with Rock ‘N Roll. The band takes inspiration from musical acts, such as Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Thin Lizzy, and Black Sabbath, and are most frequently compared to bands like Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, and The Pogues. The band consists of guitarist and vocalist, Patrick Devlin, bassist and vocalist, Chad Smalley, drummer, Eric C. Hughes, and fiddler, Wes Barlow.
After the show at 2 PM, head out to the neighborhood’s bars and restaurants for all your Irish favorites during the official Lepre-Con Pub Crawl from 3 PM to 9 PM. It’s truly a day of spirited holiday fun that you will not want to miss out on!
