Anita Baker is a soul jazz/R&B singer who has been creating music since being a part of the 1970's R&B band Chapter 8. In 1983, Anita Baker embarked on a solo career that would produce 7 albums, including 1986's Rapture and 1988's Giving You The Best That I Got, and a slew of hit singles including "Giving You The Best That I Got," "Body and Soul," and her best charting and selling hit to date "Sweet Love."
In February 2013, Baker returned to the national spotlight, performing two new songs on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. That same month, she appeared at the Grammys where "Lately," a Tyrese cover that earned Baker renewed interest, was nominated for a Grammy Award. In January 2017, Baker confirmed she had retired, but in 2018, she reversed her decision and set to work planning her 2019 tour.
Baker has received multiple awards and honors over the years, which have served to cement Baker in the musical history books. She has earned eight GRAMMY awards, seven Soul Train Music awards, and even a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She’s also received Anita Baker Day proclamations in St. Louis, Atlanta and Nashville, and she was the recipient of the 2018 BET Lifetime Achievement Award.
